Drainage Composites
Dubai’s Al Qusais landfill has been transformed into a pioneering waste-to-energy facility through redevelopment led by GESS in partnership with Dubai Municipality. Advanced geosynthetics, including APEC’s MATFLOW Geocomposite drainage, manage water infiltration and gas emissions. Methane is actively extracted and utilized under a UNFCCC Clean Development Mechanism, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 300,000 tonnes CO₂e annually.
Project : Al Qusais Landfill Rehabilitation

Product : EROMAT ®
The landfill suffered from uncontrolled rainwater infiltration and passive methane release, causing slope instability, odor, leachate generation, and severe greenhouse gas emissions. Methane, a potent greenhouse gas, required controlled containment.
An engineered capping system enhanced with APEC’s MATFLOW Geocomposite drainage layer intercepts infiltrating water, relieves subsurface pressure, and stabilizes slopes. A gas extraction network captures methane and directs it to energy recovery systems.
The rehabilitation integrates MATFLOW drainage across 292,000 m² beneath the capping system. Combined with an engineered methane extraction network, the project converts harmful emissions into energy and significantly reduces greenhouse gases under a CDM program.
